I have my MySQL server listen on a network address now (needed for various reasons). So far so good. But now, when I try to connect to spotweb, I get the following error:

Unable to connect to MySQL server: Access denied for user 'root'@'my-xp' (using password: NO)

"using password: NO"?! What the hell is spotweb talking about?! The password is configured just fine. Why is it not using it?? Is this some kind of bug?

My setting as are following:

$settings['db']['host'] = '192.168.78.81';
$settings['db']['dbname'] = 'spotweb';
$settings['db']['user'] = 'root';
$settings['db']['pass'] = 'notmyrealpassword';

Is phpmyadmin installed on your host machine? If so, can you try to log in using those same credentials and check if that does work?
From my experience the root account can only be used on 'localhost' and is blocked for other IPs, even if they are in the same network. You can always try and add a new user with all administrative privileges to the database and retry.

Oops! You are right! I was being a moron. :oops: Yeah, that wasn't going to work with root user. Fixed!
